Hessonite can also come in pinks or even clear, although the orange and red tones are more common. However, all of these colors are rare for being a grossularite as most are green – which Hessonite can also come in green, too.
Hessonite can sometimes be confused for Citrine, Red Topaz, or Orange Topaz. By looking at the stone under magnification, Hessonite garnet has less transparency which can help distinguish it from these other crystals. Also, this crystal has a higher Manganese content, which can help it be disguised if testing is done.
