Sphene, or Titanite, is usually a green-colored calcium titanium nesosilicate mineral that has small amounts of iron and aluminum impurities. Some crystals also have trace amounts of cerium and/or yttrium, with a portion of thorium that potentially replaces some of the calcium.
Sphene crystals will grow as a minor accessory in granitic and calcium-rich metamorphic rocks.
Most Sphene crystals are green in color, but other colors the crystal may come in or include are beige, black, blue, brown, grey-blue, orange, red, and yellow. Some may even be colorless.
